Late K-pop idol Moonbin’s mother has stepped forward to thank those who have been mourning the loss of her son. Moonbin, a member of the popular K-pop group ASTRO, passed away on April 19 this year at the young age of 25. While police initially suspected suicide, several theories surrounding Moonbin’s cause of death are still circulating on the internet. Amid this, his mother has urged people to not spread rumors about him.
In an official statement released by Moonbin’s agency, Fantagio, Moonbin’s mother expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans. She said, “Hello, this is Bin’s mother. First, I received a lot of comfort from the sincerity of the fans who, even though it was a long distance to travel, came all the way to [Moonbin’s memorial spaces] and wrote heartfelt letters and brought flowers. Truly, I sincerely thank you.”
However, Moonbin’s mother also expressed her concern about the rumors that have been circulating about her son’s death. She said, “I’ve seen that there have been groundless rumors starting in a small minority of online communities. These kinds of rumors are so difficult for me to see as a mother, and I am also worried that because of these false rumors, many people will suffer damages, and the fans who have been grieving for my son might suffer heartbreak.”
Moonbin’s mother went on to plead with fans to not spread any more rumors or unconfirmed facts about her son’s death. She said, “I don’t want my son to become fodder for gossip, and I entreat you to please not start any more rumors or spread unconfirmed facts. I don’t want the fans whom Bin loved so dearly to live on with broken hearts. I sincerely thank all of you for your heartfelt mourning.”
Moonbin’s death has been a shock for the entire K-pop industry and his fans. In an earlier statement, Fantagio had confirmed his passing, saying, “On April 19, ASTRO member Moon Bin unexpectedly left our world and became a star in the sky.” The agency had also asked people to “refrain from speculative and malicious reports” so that his family could pay their respects and honor him in peace.
